Biography

Madeleine Hykes is a French-American critical urban geographer and designer currently studying the MA Industrial Design at ZHdK. 

Her practice is rooted in matters of the urban fabric, with a focus on interrogating norms in cities and proposing interventions towards different paradigms built around connection, care, and resident empowerment. In her thesis, Madeleine is designing tools for individuals participating in an urban energy commons. Previously, she worked in research-oriented and public-facing roles alongside residents, architects, engineers, and local officials. Madeleine holds a B.A. in Human Geography (Urban Systems) from McGill University. 

Outside of developing her own practice and collaborative projects, Madeleine supports artists, academics, and designers in communicating their practice and refining their pedagogy.
